What is Alzheimer’s disease?

Also called: senile dementia

Alzheimer’s disease is a disease of ‘amnesia’. It is named after Alois Alzheimer, who first described it. Symptoms of this disease include loss of memory, inability to make decisions, difficulty in speaking, and then due to this, serious social and family problems etc. The risk of developing this disease increases due to high blood pressure, diabetes, modern lifestyle and multiple head injuries. There is currently no permanent cure for this disease, which usually occurs around the age of 60-65. In others words, Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive mental deterioration that can occur in middle or old age, due to generalized degeneration of the brain. It is the commonest cause of premature senility.

What is the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease?

Main symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease-

Memory loss and confusion are the main symptoms. mental decline, difficulty thinking and understanding, confusion in the evening hours, delusion, disorientation, forgetfulness, making things up, mental confusion, difficulty concentrating, inability to create new memories, inability to do simple maths.

3. Taking longer to complete normal daily tasks.
