*What is Malaria? And how does it spread?

Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by the Plasmodium parasite, hence malaria is also called Plasmodium infection. The parasite is transmitted to people by the bite of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes, which are called malaria vectors. There are more than 400 different species of Anopheles mosquito, of which about 30 are the main ones through which malaria is transmitted, and all of these important species bites in the evening and early morning. Most of the Anopheles mosquitoes lay their eggs in water, which produce larvae in the water, then these larvae transform into adult mosquitoes. Anopheles mosquitoes are found in abundance in tropical countries during the rainy season because their habitat is mostly water. About 90% of malaria cases in the world occur in the continent of Africa.

*What are the types of malaria plasmodium parasite?

Malaria disease is transmitted through protozoan parasites of the genus Plasmodium. Only four types of Plasmodium parasites affect humans, the most dangerous of which are Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax. Along with this, Plasmodium malariae and Plasmodium ovale affect humans. All of these groups of Plasmodium are called “malaria parasites”.

*What are the symptoms of Malaria?

Fever, shivering, joint pain, headache, muscle pain, fatigue, back pain, enlargement of spleen, nausea and vomiting, cold, anemia etc.

*How to cure Malaria?

The World Health Organization advises vector control is the main way to prevent and reduce malaria transmission. Research or discovery is still going on for the prevention of malaria, but no vaccine or vaccine has been available so far. To reduce the risk of malaria, WHO recommends that the use of insecticides and the use of mosquito nets is very helpful in controlling the risk of malaria.

*What drugs are used in the treatment of malaria?

Antimalarial drugs can be used to treat malaria. Such as quinine or artemisinin, chloroquine, sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (SP) etc.
