Turner syndrome is a genetic disorder affecting girls and women. Turner syndrome symptoms include the lack of breast development and periods. Treatment for Turner syndrome may include hormone therapy.

Turner syndrome, a condition that affects only females, results when one of the X chromosome (sex chromosome) is missing or partially missing. Turner syndrome can cause a variety of Medical and developmental problems, including short height, failure of the ovaries to develop and heart defects.

Types of the Turner syndrome

Two types of Turner syndrome that is, Monosomy X TS and Mosaic TS. About half of all girls with Turner syndrome have a monosomy disorder. Monosomy means that a person is missing one chromosome in the pair. Instead of 46 chromosomes, the person has only 45 chromosomes.

The causes of Turner syndrome

Turner syndrome happens when one of a female baby’s two X chromosomes is missing or incomplete. Researchers do not yet understand why this happens.

What is the symptoms of Turner syndrome

Many symptoms of Turner syndrome,

Have delayed puberty and lack of growth Spurts, resulting in an average adult height of 4 feet, 8 inches .(If diagnosed early, growth hormone can help the person reach near normal height)

Grow more slowly than their peers during childhood and adolescence.

Beside short stature ,females with Turner syndrome-

  • Dental problems
  • Broad chest
  • Eye problems
  • Drooping eyelids
  • Many skin moles
  • Small lower Jaw
  • Swelling on the hands and feet
  • Scoliosis
  • Narrow fingernails and toenails

Another symptoms is not experiencing typical sexual development in females-

  • Don’t make enough sex hormones
  • Typically don’t go through puberty, unless they get hormone therapy in late childhood and early teens.
  • May not have menstrual periods
  • Don’t experience breast development

Other medical problems might people with Turner syndrome have-

  • Bone problems
  • Cardiovascular problems

  • Hearing and ear problems
  • Autoimmune disorders

Can Turner syndrome be prevented

You cannot prevent Turner syndrome. It is the congenital problem. It happens when a random error results in a missing or incomplete x-chromosome. Par ents cannot do anything to stop this error from happening.
